Abraham: The Introduction of a Hero

On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Rabbi Mark Fishman, Manager of North American Engagement for Israel365 and Director of Israel365 Nashville, taught a compelling class at Nashville Sabbath Fellowship titled: Abraham: The Introduction of a Hero.

In this teaching, Rabbi Fishman explores the Torah’s introduction of Abraham at the close of Parashat Noach and the opening of Lech Lecha:

“Now HaShem said to Avram: ‘Go for yourself from your land, from your birthplace, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you…’” (Genesis 12:1)

What did Abraham do to receive this calling?
And why does the Torah omit the reason?

Drawing from Maimonides and the Midrash, Rabbi Fishman traces Abraham’s emergence as a spiritual revolutionary—an intellectual seeker who reasoned his way to the knowledge of one God, an iconoclast who shattered idols, and a man who looked at a world “on fire” and asked whether it had a Master.

This is not just the story of one man’s calling. It is the introduction of a hero whose journey begins with questions, courage, and the willingness to walk into the unknown.
